Heads Uhhp!
Uhhp is a lightweight, low-profile head protection prototype designed to fit under a standard baseball cap, giving youth baseball players an added layer of protection while keeping the familiar look and feel of their team hat.
We’re looking for parents, coaches, and teams willing to try the prototype and share feedback.
No cost. No obligation. Just honest feedback.
A Protective Layer That Fits Under a Baseball Hat
Uhhp is an under-hat head protection device being developed for youth baseball players. It is designed to fit discreetly beneath most baseball caps while adding protection during common baseball activities.
The goal is simple: create extra protection that feels familiar enough for kids to actually wear.
Uhhp is designed to be:
Low-profile
Lightweight
Comfortable
Secure
Easy to wear under a baseball cap
Practical for everyday baseball activity
Baseball Is Getting Faster
Youth baseball is getting faster as players get stronger and bats become more hotter. Pitchers and fielders can face hard-hit balls, bad hops, and errant throws with very little time to react.
Batting helmets help protect players at the plate, but kids are often on the field without head protection during warmups, practice, bullpen sessions, fielding drills, scrimmages, and defensive play.
Uhhp was created for those moments.
Designed to Add Protection Without Changing How Kids Play
Uhhp is being developed to provide a practical layer of protection that fits into the way kids already play baseball.
It is designed to:
Use advanced energy-absorbing materials
Stay in place with a familiar retention system
Feel comfortable enough to wear throughout baseball activity
Fit under a team hat without looking bulky or awkward
Engineered With Impact-Absorbing Material
Uhhp uses Poron XRD® Extreme Impact Protection material. It remains soft and flexible in its nominal state, but instantly hardens on impact to absorb energy better than traditional materials.
In a controlled 10-foot drop demonstration, the video helps show how impact energy can be absorbed and how rebound can be reduced. This is a helpful way to understand the material capabilities, but it does not represent every real baseball impact or guarantee injury prevention.
Advanced Impact Material
Uses Poron XRD® material designed to absorb impact energy.
Low-Profile Fit
Designed to fit beneath most fitted and snapback baseball caps.
Lightweight Design
Weighs less than 5 oz, so players can wear it during extended baseball activity.
Secure Retention System
Built to help keep the device in place while running, fielding, and reacting.
Patent Pending
This product and related technology are the subject of one or more pending U.S. patent applications.
How the Demo Works
We’re currently inviting parents, coaches, and youth baseball teams to try the Uhhp prototype and provide honest feedback. There is no cost and no obligation to continue after the demo.
What’s Included in the Demo
One prototype head-protection unit
Simple instructions for fit and placement
A short feedback form, about 2 to 3 minutes
Optional follow-up to try updated versions
How Your Child Will Use It
Kids can try the product:

Now Looking for Parents, Coaches, and Teams
We’re looking for real-world feedback from people who know youth baseball best.
Parents
Try Uhhp with your child and share feedback on fit, comfort, and whether they are willing to wear it.
Coaches
Use the prototype during practices, warmups, bullpen sessions, or non-contact drills and tell us how it works in a team setting.
Teams and Leagues
Request information about testing multiple prototypes with a group of players.
Your Feedback Will Help Improve the Design
This demo is about learning what works, what needs improvement, and whether the prototype fits naturally into youth baseball.
We’re especially interested in:
How it fits under a baseball cap
Whether it feels comfortable
Whether it stays in place during activity
Whether kids are willing to wear it
Whether it feels too warm or noticeable
Whether coaches and parents find it practical
What could be improved in future versions

Designed by an Engineer. Built for Young Players.
I’m Emmett, a mechanical engineer who has spent my career working with advanced materials and product design.
The idea for UHHP began on a youth baseball field. After watching one of my son’s teammates get hit in the head by a line drive while pitching, I started searching for practical head protection that players could wear while pitching and fielding. We tried many of the available products, but found they often fell short. Some didn’t provide enough protection, some were uncomfortable, and others were simply too bulky or unusual for players to wear consistently.
During my research, I discovered a family of advanced “smart” materials that remain soft and flexible during normal movement but instantly harden upon impact to absorb and dissipate energy. These materials are trusted in demanding applications ranging from military equipment and motorsports to mountain biking and other high-impact sports.
Inspired by their performance, I began developing a head protection system specifically for young baseball players.
The result is UHHP, a lightweight under-cap protection system designed to:
Add impact protection where a standard baseball cap does not
Remain lightweight and comfortable for full-time wear
Stay securely in place while throwing, running, diving, and fielding
Fit discreetly under a player’s team cap
For the past several months, my son and his teammates have been testing prototypes on the field, helping refine the design through real-world use.
The goal is simple: provide players with extra protection, greater confidence, and the ability to play the game they love without changing how they play it.
Now we’re looking for feedback from players, parents, and coaches as we continue to improve UHHP and bring this product to more athletes.
